Wheels Within Wheels — Divine Structure Revealed
A visual synthesis of Ezekiel’s throne-chariot, Paul’s third heaven, and Enoch’s heavenly ascent — portraying God enthroned above creation.
1. Ezekiel: Wheels Within Wheels and the Throne Above
Core text: Ezekiel 1; echoed in Ezekiel 10.
- Wheels within wheels, filled with eyes — Ezekiel 1:4–21 “A wheel in the middle of a wheel… their rims were full of eyes… the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.”
- Throne above the creatures — Ezekiel 1:22–28 “Above the firmament… was the likeness of a throne… and upon it the appearance of a man… the likeness of the glory of the LORD.”
- Vision repeated — Ezekiel 10:1–22 The same chariot, wheels, creatures, and departing glory.
Meaning: Wheels + creatures = the mobile throne-chariot of God moving through creation, with God enthroned above it.
2. Paul: Caught Up to the Third Heaven
Core text: 2 Corinthians 12:1–4.
- “Caught up to the third heaven… caught up into paradise…”
- Implies layered heavens.
- God’s dwelling is beyond the visible cosmos.
Meaning: Third heaven = the realm above the created heavens.
3. Heaven of Heavens: God Above All Creation
- Heaven of heavens cannot contain Him — 1 Kings 8:27; 2 Chronicles 6:18
- Heaven of heavens created — Nehemiah 9:6
- God above the circle of the earth — Isaiah 40:22
- Glory above the heavens — Psalm 113:4–6
Meaning: The heavens are created layers; God is beyond them.
4. Daniel & Revelation: Parallel Throne-Chariot Visions
- Daniel 7:9–10 — Ancient of Days, fiery throne, wheels of fire.
- Revelation 4–5 — Throne, living creatures, sea of glass, Lamb.
Parallels to Ezekiel: living creatures, eyes everywhere, throne above, heavenly court.
5. Enoch: Wheels, Living Creatures, and the Highest Heaven
From 1 Enoch (thematically aligned with Ezekiel):
- Enoch taken up to the “great house,” crystal floor, flaming fire.
- Heavenly wheels and living beings.
- Multiple heavens.
- God dwelling in the highest heaven.
Meaning: Enoch expands the Ezekiel‑type throne vision.
6. Other Supporting Passages
- Genesis 1:1 — God created the heavens and the earth.
- Psalm 148:1–6 — heavens and waters above created.
- Colossians 1:16–17 — all things created in heaven and earth.
Meaning: The heavens are created; God is beyond and sustains them.
7. Pulling the Storyline Together
- Ezekiel & Enoch — wheels within wheels, living creatures, throne above = cosmic chariot structure.
- Paul — third heaven = layered heavens, God beyond creation.
- Heaven of heavens — highest heaven still created; God transcends it.
- Daniel & Revelation — throne room as the transcendent court above all realms.
